The Tuareg are nomadic people, who are found throughout much of the Western Sahara Desert and neighboring areas. Camels are a primary means of transportation. This elaborate camel saddle is a type usually reserved for short trips or special occasions such as camel races, while a simpler type of saddle is used for long journeys.

Saddles are constructed of wood, which is covered with leather and metal ornaments. The high back rest, prominent pommel and extensive leather and metal embellishments make these saddles prestige items for men.
